This paper deals with automatic language identification based on prosodic features and rhythmic information. A segmentation method has been used to divide the speech signal into sub-word units, and with vowel/consonantal detection, segment the speech into vowel units and consonantal units. Pseudo-syllable units are then produced. Several parameters are extracted and modeled from pseudo-syllable and modeled with a Gaussian mixture model (GMM). Experiments are performed on free and telephone channel speech. The results show that the sub-word system and the rhythmic system are effective.

To understand how alcohol interferes with brain function, previous researches were focused mostly on the analysis of characteristics of subjects’ electroencephalogram (EEG) rhythms, while studies on their scalp distribution were insufficient. In this work, the scalp distribution of EEG power in alcoholic and normal controls using three experiment paradigms has been analyzed. The results show that, across all these experiments, alpha, delta and theta powers in the occipital region of alcoholics are significantly lower than those in normal subjects; while beta and gamma powers in the frontal and temporal region is much higher than the control group. Moreover, different experiment tasks had varied effects on the powers and on their distribution among all rhythms. Alpha power varied across the experiments, theta in the occipital region, and gamma power in frontal regions. However the paradigms had no effect on the distribution of beta power. It has been concluded that the decreased power of low frequency and the increased power of higher frequency imply the longterm abuse of ethanol, which would cause brain damage and deficiency in brain function. Such effects were revealed through different scalp distribution of brain’s electrical activities.

Generalized Rice process covers fading from the heaviest single-sided Gaussian process to the fading that is lighter than the Rice process. It has better performance than other fading channel models. This paper studies bit error rate (BER) performance of digital signals through a generalized Rice channel. Average BER of coherent binary phase shift keying (BPSK), coherent binary frequency shift keying (BFSK), differential binary phase shift keying (DBPSK), and non-coherent BFSK detection schemes for slowly fading non-frequency-selective channels is derived. Influence of all parameters in the generalized Rice model on average BER is investigated.

In this paper, temperature characteristics of quarter-waveplate are analyzed theoretically. With temperature changes, the change of phase retarder of quarter-waveplates made of panda fiber, and geometrical birefringent fiber are discussed respectively. Quarterwaveplates made of geometrical birefringent fiber is more insensitive. And two types of quarter-waveplates made in our laboratory are measured too. The results show that, between -40 ℃ and 60 ℃, the quarter-waveplate made of geometrical birefringence fiber has better temperature characteristics than that made of panda fiber.

An ultra-wideband (UWB) filter with a novel compact structure using dual-mode resonators is proposed. The passband ranges from 3.9~11.6 GHz, achieving about 99% fractional bandwidth (FBW). Two sharp attenuation poles can be located close to either side of the desired pass-band to improve the frequency selectivity. The other two attenuation poles can be set in the stopband of upper frequencies so as to reject the third resonant modes of dualmode resonators. The measured results demonstrate that the insertion loss is below 1.0 dB in the passband, and higher than 15.0 dB in the upper-stopband (12.0~19.5 GHz). Group delay variation in the passband is less than 0.5 ns. The measured result agrees well with the electromagnetic (EM) simulated result, demonstrating validity of the filter.

Following the modified theory of beams with the effect of shear deformation, a generalized Hamilton variational principle with three displacements and two rotational angles is established in which the material of pile obeys one of the thrice nonlinear constitutive relations. A mathematical model of dynamic behavior analysis of nonlinear elastic piles is also presented. As an application of the model, the plane coupling movement of nonlinear elastic piles is analyzed in detail. The Galerkin method and methods in nonlinear dynamic dynamics are used to study the dynamic behavior of nonlinear piles with long time. To consider the effect of the boundary condition, the dynamic behavior of plies with three different boundary conditions is considered. Also, the qualitative properties of the Galerkin systems with 1-order and 2-order truncation are calculated and compared numerically.

ZnS and C60 nanowire arrays were fabricated with a hydrothermal method using porous aluminum oxide membrane as templates in a tank of pressure at certain temperature. Images of ZnS and C60 nanowires are obtained by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) respectively. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectrum and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) are employed to study morphology and chemical composition of the nanowires. The results indicate that all ZnS and C60 nanowires have ordered nano-array structure, and ZnS has a polycrystalline structure. Fluorescence spectroscopy was determined by 332 nm UV-light, and had a special fluorescence property with a strong characteristic emission appearing at 519 nm. The action mechanism of alumina template on the growing and its application prospects are investigated. 

A subgroup H of a finite group G is said to be normally embedded in G if, for every prime p dividing the order of H, there exists a normal subgroup K of G such that a Sylow p- subgroup of H is also a Sylow p- subgroup of K。 This paper assumes that every non-cyclic Sylow subgroup P of G has a subgroup D such that 1<|D|<|P| and all subgroups H of P with order |H|=|D| and with 2|D|(if P is a non-abelian 2-group and |P:D|>2) are normally embedded in G, and some sufficient conditions are obtained on G to be p-nilpotent groups and supersolvable groups. Moreover, some of them are extended to formations.

The ideal and single roll-indent sawing machining model cannot explain the whole multi-wire sawing process because the environment of the process is not ideal and the requirement of process is not always the same. Based on multiple states existing in the movement of grind granule in multi-wire sawing process, this paper introduces integrated mechanical behavior of the granule-machining mechanism of grind granule determined by the hydrodynamics condition of the slurry fluid film. The granule in the status of semi-contact and full-contact uses roll-indent and roll-indent-chipping processes independently to implement sawing machining. That is the reason why multiple hybrid machining mechanics can explain the whole multi-wire sawing process. This mode is closer to the reality.

This paper proposes a control method of AC-excited power supply for variable-speed constant-frequency (VSCF) wind energy generation with doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). Based on grid voltage orientation, rotor-side converter and grid-side converter are studied. By analyzing the mathematical model of DFIG, the control strategy of idle load grid-connection is designed. It realizes grid-connection without impact current under variable wind speed. The grid-side converter is controlled by direct current control, achieving bidirectional energy flow and power factor adjustment. DFIG wind energy generation can be realized both in subsychronous and supersynchronous operations. Experiments show accuracy of the theory and effectiveness of the control strategy.

A method of advancing box-culvert with pipe roof was used in soft soil ground for the first time in a tunnel of Shanghai Middle Ring Road. The first step is to jack a steel pipe or a tube of some other material into soil between starting and accepting shafts. Waterproof material is then injected into the lock-join to form a close underground space. Construction of box culvert jacking is complicated, and easy to cause ground deformation. This paper studies characteristics of ground movement during construction of large section box-culvert jacking based on measured data. Some new laws of ground movement are found which is different from those of excavating methods. Three dimensional finite element method (FEM) model is established to simulate the process and ground movement of advancing box culvert. The model can simulate the state of excavating soil inside the pipe roof. Simulated data are compared with practical measurements, showing satisfactory results.
