Abstract:

Qualitative and quantitative analyses of hydrogen and carbon monoxide produced f

rom the radiolysis of AHA in aqueous solution are reported. Studies were perform

ed using chromatography. A 2 m column packed with 0.5 nm molecular sieve and

a thermal conductivity detector were used. The results show that volume fracti

on of hydrogen is very high when concentration of AHA is in the range of
0.1~0.5 mol/L and the dose is 10~1 000 kGy. Volume fraction of hydrogen is

not
closely related with AHA concentration. Volume fraction of hydrogen increases
with the increase of dose when the dose is below 500 kGy, but is less dependent

on the dose when the dose is higher than 500 kGy. Carbon monoxide is produced on

ly when the dose is relatively high, and its volume fraction is very low.
