Abstract: The microstructure of laminates is changed by z-pinning. In order to understand the fiber stress distribution in prepreg composites with insertion of z-pins, finite element analyses are conducted based upon the micromechanics model. The uncured resin matrix is modeled by viscoleastic constitutive equations. The fiber stress relaxation behavior with time is revealed.
