Abstract

The biocompatibility of pristine multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), purified MWNTs and polyethylene glycol MWNTs (PEGMWNTs) was studied using the method of plasmid DNA assay and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results show that pristine MWNTs can cause serious damage to plasmid DNA. After purification, MWNTs may cause less damage to plasmid DNA, while at the same concentration level, PEGMWNTs cause the smallest damage to plasmid DNA.
