Abstract: Based on the principle of virtual work, the governing equation for bending of functionally graded rectangular plates is derived by using the meshless method. The penalty method is used to deal with displacement boundary conditions. Two numerical examples are presented showing that the meshless method has some merits: it uses a small number of grid points with high precision.
