Load Test on Typical Segment Joints

Abstract:

The joint of tunnel’s lining rings is critical to stiffness, strength and water-tightness of the integrated segments, and is the weakest point in the integral structure of segmental lining. This paper describes the tests on lining joints in straight contact under positive and negative loads of bending moments. We obtain and plot the M-θ curves, featuring buckling characteristics of joints of both staggered and through contacts, together with angular deviation and opening of joint. This enables a study on buckling capacity and coefficient of stiffness of a typical segment in order to verify reliability of its design.
