Abstract:

This essay, by analysis of Liang Qichao's view on civilization during his stay in Japan, such as the connotation of civilization, the developing phases of civilization and the approach to realizing civilization, points out that While Liang Qichao drew nourishment from Fuzeyujie's view on civilization, there were notable, substantial difference between them. Different from Fuzeyujie who was completely convinced of the Western civilization, Liang Qichao had a firm Chinacentered ideology. And he attached importance to culture. Before going to Japan, he formed his view on vicissitudes or evolution or civilization that had nothing with Fuzeyujie. He drew nourishment from Fuzeyujie during his stay in Japan because Fuzeyujie's work coincided with his ideological tendency. According to Liang Qichao, Fuzeyujie's view on civilization was just a bridge that was beneficial to his study of the Western civilization.
