Abstract:
The history of the ci study cannot go without detailed description of inheritance from elders. As far as the Changzhou school of the ci study is concerned, it plays a vital role in inheritance, with Zhang Huiyan as the "father" and Zhou Ji as the real founder. After that, it developed into two subschools. One is representative of Tang Xian, including Zhang Yu and Ye Yanlan, then passed on Feng Xu, Xu Ke, Chen Tingchuo and Ye Gongchuo. And the other consists of Duan Mucai and Wang Peng, through Kuang Zhouyi, Zhu Zumou, Wen Tingshi and Zhen Wenchuo, to Wu Mei, Long Yusheng, Xia Chentao and Tang Guizhang. All this inheritance in modern times, evidently, is related to learning, lineage, profession and region. While elders are giving a great influence on juniors in their interest, method and achievement, juniors are also, based on the teachings of elders, giving their innovation continuously. Generally speaking, the influence is more than the innovation, thus making little contribution to the modern academic thinking but no lacking of enlightenment. The instruction embodied in inheritance is significant to improve the moral quality and learning purification of contemporary scholars.
Key words: ci study, inheritance, Changzhou school of ci study, traditional skills, modern times
