A Brief Comment on the Relationship Between Qian Mu and New School of Textual Research

——Focus on the Contact of Qian Mu with Fu Sinian

Abstract:

The new school of textual research, chiefly, refers to the school of historical materials or data, which, led by Fu Sinian and centering on the Institute of Historical Language, advocates the principle of examining and correcting historical documents and brags about the attitude for the sake of learning. Over a long period of 20 years, the school, depending on the historical theories during Qian and Jia dynasties and drawing on the modern positive study of history in Western countries, has become the most influenced mainstream one in the field of history of the times. This essay, focus on the contact of Qian Mu with Fu Sinian, leader of new school of textual research, and, by analysis of the similarity and distinction between the two, tries to describe an intricate process of development in the field of history.
