Abstract: The forming of the Yi song can trace back to the Liu Song period of the Southern Dynasties or earlier. In music, it adopts solo without harmony, and in music instruments, confines to bells, waist drums and wind instruments, playing often together with the dancing songs of the Western Melody. As for the style of song words, it is evidently influenced by the Wu song. But from the region, both the Yi song and the dancing music of the Western Melody chiefly come from the surrounding area of Jing, Chu, Fan and Deng, and, at the same time, have a close tie with the Wu area, which had something with the frequent trade-change among them as well as the hobby of rulers during the Southern Dynasties.
